Declan Rice struck in the closing stages to rescue a 2-2 draw for Arsenal away at Bayern Munich in a frantic Champions League league phase clash at the Allianz Arena.

The north London side were forced into an early change when Bukayo Saka went off with a non-contact injury after just nine minutes, with Eberechi Eze coming on in his place. Despite the setback, Arsenal settled quickly and took the lead on 25 minutes through Eze, who timed his run behind the Bayern defence perfectly to finish with his left foot from Martin Odegaard's pass over the top. The goal was initially flagged offside before VAR intervened to let it stand.

Bayern responded within ten minutes as Alphonso Davies ran onto a Harry Kane through ball and slotted past David Raya to level the scores, setting up a tense and open contest for the remainder of the half.

Kane penalty puts hosts ahead

The game continued at a relentless pace after the break, with chances at both ends. Raya produced a point blank save to deny Dayot Upamecano, while Bruno Guimaraes saw a header cleared off the line by Manuel Neuer.

Just after the hour mark, Bayern were awarded a penalty after Kane's goalbound effort struck Jurrien Timber's hand. Kane converted from the spot to put the hosts in front, continuing their remarkable home record in the competition, having lost just one of their previous 31 Champions League matches at the Allianz Arena.

Rice strikes late to salvage a point

Arsenal refused to settle for defeat and drew level with ten minutes remaining through an excellent team move. After sustained pressure, Viktor Gyokeres laid the ball off to Rice, who drove into the box before firing a low shot into the far corner to send the travelling Arsenal supporters into celebration.

Timber almost won it for Arsenal late on, but his swerving effort was tipped over the bar. The result extends Arsenal's unbeaten run in the Champions League league phase to 15 matches, stretching back through the whole of last season's campaign, according to Arsenal's official matchday report.

Attention now turns to the Premier League, with Arsenal hosting Everton at Emirates Stadium on Saturday at 3pm. The Gunners return to Champions League action away to Slavia Prague on November 4, with the extent of Saka's injury likely to become clearer before then.
