Victoria Pelova is set to complete a controversial move across north London this summer, joining Tottenham on a free transfer after Arsenal confirmed her departure.

According to Soccerdonna, the Dutch midfielder will link up with Martin Ho’s side when her Gunners contract expires at the end of June.

Pelova joined Arsenal from Ajax in January 2023 and made an immediate impact as a right-winger before transitioning to central midfield during an outstanding 2023-24 campaign. Her progress was derailed by a devastating ACL rupture suffered on international duty in June 2024.

By the time the 27-year-old returned to fitness, Mariona and Kim Little had cemented their places in Arsenal’s engine room under Renee Slegers. Pelova struggled to establish herself and force her way back into regular contention.

Tottenham investment paying off

The move represents another significant coup for Tottenham, who have substantially increased their investment in the women’s team in recent transfer windows. Pelova’s arrival follows the signings of Kirsty Hanson and Shekeira Martinez from West Ham.

Arsenal confirmed Pelova’s departure last month, with the club having made no serious attempt to renew her contract. Her versatility and technical ability will be a major asset for Tottenham as they look to close the gap on the WSL’s established powers.

The midfielder’s time at Arsenal showcased her adaptability, seamlessly transitioning from wide areas to the center of the park. Her injury-hit final season prevented her from building on the momentum of her excellent 2023-24 campaign.

International injury concerns

Meanwhile, Arsenal face defensive concerns on the international front with both Taylor Hinds and Leah Williamson withdrawing from England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The pair will miss Friday’s clash with Spain and Tuesday’s encounter with Ukraine due to injury.

Williamson’s withdrawal will be particularly concerning given her importance to both club and country. The defender’s fitness will be closely monitored ahead of Arsenal’s crucial summer preparations.

Pelova’s move to Tottenham marks another departure from Arsenal’s women’s squad following Katie McCabe’s recent switch to Chelsea. The Dutch international will hope to reignite her career in familiar surroundings and return to the form that made her such an integral part of Arsenal’s midfield just two seasons ago.
