World Cup Winner Refuses to Rule Out Arsenal Move

Julian Alvarez has refused to rule out a potential move away from Atletico Madrid, providing fresh hope for Arsenal who have previously shown interest in the Argentina striker.

The World Cup winner, who has been linked with the Gunners in the past, remained coy when asked about his future at the Spanish club. Speaking after Atletico’s commanding 5-2 Champions League victory over Tottenham, Alvarez declined to dismiss the possibility of another transfer.

“I don’t know, I don’t know, but maybe yes, maybe no. You never know,” Alvarez told reporters. “But I’m very happy here. You ask me a question that will end up all over the place, but I’m happy.”

The 26-year-old added: “I’m thinking about the day-to-day, I’m working to improve, to give my best here, I never said anything bad about the club, I’m very grateful, the people also showed me their affection, so I’m very happy.”

Alvarez has been in impressive form for Atletico Madrid this season, netting twice against Spurs to take his tally to seven Champions League goals and 16 across all competitions. His performances have reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona as well as Arsenal.

Arsenal may face significant squad changes this summer as Financial Fair Play regulations could force the club to sell players before making new signings. The north London side have been monitoring Alvarez since before his move to Atletico Madrid from Manchester City.

Norgaard Embraces New Role

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard has shed light on his discussions with Mikel Arteta about his tactical evolution. The Denmark international, who joined from Brentford last summer, has been deployed as a centre-back to help address the club’s defensive injury crisis.

Norgaard featured in the unfamiliar position during Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Club Brugge in December and has expressed enthusiasm for the role change.

“It actually suits me very well,” Norgaard explained to Viaplay. “As a defender, you have a lot of the game in front of you. In the long run, it could be a good and suitable position for me. It’s nice to have a phase where I try it out.”

The 32-year-old revealed that both he and Arteta had spoken with Denmark national team manager Brian Riemer about the positional switch. “We were just talking about this potential opportunity for me to play centre-back. It was great that Brian could hear what thoughts and challenges Arsenal have had.”
