Arsenal handed January update on £100m-rated Bournemouth forward

Arsenal's interest in Eli Junior Kroupi looks set to run into the same wall in January that it hit in the summer, with Bournemouth reportedly unwilling to entertain offers for the young Frenchman in the winter window.
Kroupi emerged as one of the most talked-about forwards in the Premier League last term after scoring 13 goals in his first season in England, having arrived at the Vitality Stadium from Lorient for £10million.

That form put the 20-year-old firmly on the radar of several elite clubs, Arsenal among them, as Standard Sport reported during the summer. It was understood a fee close to £100m would have been required to test Bournemouth's resolve.
Cherries holding firm
The Cherries' position was clear throughout: Kroupi was not for sale. Club insiders believed another season on the south coast would benefit the forward's development, and Bournemouth's hand was strengthened by qualification for European football.
Nothing appears to have changed heading into the new year. BBC Sport have reported that Bournemouth are not willing to entertain any offers for Kroupi in January, despite the striker again being linked with a number of clubs for the winter window.
Complicating matters further is the player's fitness. Kroupi is yet to feature for Bournemouth this season after undergoing surgery in July on a fractured metatarsal, an injury that was expected to sideline him for up to four months.
His potential return is pencilled in for after next month's international break, with Bournemouth facing Nottingham Forest, Celta Vigo and Fulham inside eight days.
Parlour gave his backing
Former Gunners midfielder Ray Parlour was among those urging the club to move for Kroupi during the summer window, giving the pursuit his personal green light.
"Kroupi's a very good, talented player, there's no doubt about that," Parlour told Mirror Football. "He's a young player, and you know Mikel Arteta can make players even better when they're young, so that would be a good signing."
The profile certainly fits the recruitment model Arsenal have leaned on in recent windows — young, versatile attackers with resale value and room to grow inside Arteta's system. The price tag attached to Kroupi after one breakout campaign, however, is a different conversation entirely.
A near-£100m valuation for a forward with a single Premier League season behind him and a long-term injury on his record represents a significant gamble, and Bournemouth's refusal to open negotiations removes the decision from Arsenal's hands for now.
Clubs that fail to land a target in one window often return in the next, but with Bournemouth in European competition and Kroupi only just approaching full fitness, a mid-season sale was always going to be a difficult sell.
Arsenal's attention in January is likely to be shaped by their own squad situation, and any renewed push for Kroupi may have to wait until the summer, when Bournemouth's resolve could be tested all over again.
