Arsenal trio join Arteta on Premier League awards shortlist

David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes and Declan Rice have been named on the eight-man shortlist for the Premier League Player of the Season award alongside manager Mikel Arteta’s nomination for Manager of the Season.

The trio have combined for 101 league appearances and played crucial roles in Arsenal’s title challenge this campaign. Raya has already secured the Golden Glove with 18 clean sheets, while Gabriel and Rice have established themselves as two of Arteta’s most trusted leaders, regularly captaining the side during Martin Odegaard’s absences.

According to Arseblog, Raya’s achievement has been built not only on his own consistency, but also the defensive platform provided by players like Gabriel and Rice in front of him.

Competition for individual honors

The remaining Player of the Season nominees include Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth) and Igor Thiago (Brentford).

Fernandes was recently named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, though it was suggested that support for Arsenal players was split between Rice, Gabriel and Raya, potentially costing any of the trio individual recognition as Rice finished second in that voting.

The Premier League award combines a public vote with the views of a panel of football experts, meaning Arsenal supporters will need to rally behind one candidate to maximize their chances.

Arteta faces strong managerial competition

Arteta’s inclusion on the Manager of the Season shortlist sees him compete against Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Keith Andrews (Brentford), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) and Regis Le Bris (Sunderland).

The nominations highlight the impressive work done by several managers this season, with Brentford’s Andrews and Bournemouth’s Iraola particularly earning praise for their teams’ performances despite significant player turnover.

Arsenal have no representation on the Young Player of the Season shortlist, though two nominees have been linked with potential Emirates moves. West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi have both reportedly attracted interest from the north London side ahead of the summer transfer window.

The remaining young player nominees include Lewis Hall (Newcastle), Michael Kayode (Brentford), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Alex Scott (Bournemouth), Rayan Cherki and Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City).

With voting now open for both categories, Arsenal supporters will have the opportunity to back their nominees as the club continues its push for silverware this season.
