Arsenal goalkeeper, David Raya, has won the 2024/25 Premier League ‘Golden Glove’ award, following an impressive season between the sticks.

Although the Spaniard conceded to relegated Southampton, Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels also conceded to Chelsea, meaning the pair share the honour.

Before Arsenal concluded their home campaign with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United last Sunday, Sels led the charge for the award, but after he conceded to West Ham United, Raya was presented with the opportunity to defend his award.

Last campaign, despite not initially being first-choice goalkeeper, benched by Aaron Ramsdale, Raya still led the division, with an impressive 16 clean sheets in 32 games.

This year, while the North London club have denied the opposition of a goal in 13 matches, they also possess the best defensive record in the league, conceding just 34 times, seven fewer than champions, Liverpool.

It is an accolade which the Gunners have boasted in recent times, conceding just 29 goals last campaign, which has only been beaten by The Invincibles in the club’s Premier League history, who let in just 26 goals in 2003/04.

Despite his impressive record since arriving in North London from city rivals, Brentford, at the start of last campaign, reports have emerged that Arsenal are exploring the goalkeeper market once again this summer.

Arsenal hold an interest in Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, dating back to last summer, when the 24 year-old had a verbal agreement for a deal. The English club bid €20million for his services on deadline day, but while tight on time, the club opted to revisit a deal in future windows, instead signing Norberto Neto on loan from Bournemouth.

A move is still far from certain though, as while Mikel Arteta likes his fellow Spaniard, new sporting director, Andrea Berta, believes funds could be better allocated elsewhere.
