Arteta: pepe is a inspiration

On Wednesday night, the apprentice is set to face his former teacher when Arsenal travel north to face a fully fit Manchester City side. An evening that is likely to mean a lot for the new Arsenal coach. Mikel spent 3 and a half years as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City after initially meeting as players in Barcelona many years ago. During his tenure in Manchester, Arteta helped Pep and City win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two EFL Cup trophies in arguably Manchester City’s best ever period.

During Mikel Arteta’s virtual pre match press conference on Monday evening, he had strong and positive words to describe his relationship with Pep Guardiola:

“In my coaching career and my personal life, he has an enormous influence. If I have to talk about the person he is, his values, the way he has treated me and how he deals with the players and the staff around him, it’s phenomenal.”

“As a coach, I have learned so much from him, we have spent some amazing moments together, some difficult ones as well, but the experience next to him has been incredible.”

Hearing Mikel say such positive words about Guardiola’s influence suggests that he has been, and will continue to try and adopt these values into his own side.
