Arsenal's pursuit of Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi has a new obstacle, with Barcelona now tracking the same teenager.

The Gunners have been monitoring the Frenchman for several months after a breakout Premier League campaign in which he finished as the leading teenage scorer in England. His goals helped Bournemouth qualify for the Europa League, with the Cherries pushing close to a Champions League place.

According to Caught Offside, Barcelona have also been following Kroupi for several months and view him as a potential addition to their attack. That puts the Catalan club in direct competition with Arsenal for one of the most highly rated young forwards in English football.

Bournemouth hold the cards

Kroupi was not for sale in the last window. Bournemouth rejected interest from several clubs and kept hold of the striker, and nothing in their position suggests that stance has softened.

There is also a complication on the pitch. Kroupi suffered an injury during pre-season and remains unavailable, which could delay any move. Clubs weighing a significant investment will want to assess his recovery before committing, and the south-coast side retain a strong negotiating position regardless.

That combination — a reluctant selling club and an injured asset — means this is unlikely to be a quick piece of business for anyone involved.

A familiar race for Arsenal and Barcelona

This is not the first time the two clubs have been circling the same forward. Both Arsenal and Barcelona showed interest in Julian Alvarez over the summer, and neither got the deal done, with Atletico Madrid refusing to sell.

That failure has sharpened the need for an additional attacking option at both clubs, and Kroupi has now become a focal point of that search.

The report states that Arsenal regard his Premier League experience and goalscoring record as the key attractions, while Barcelona see him as a player capable of strengthening their forward line.

Should Bournemouth eventually open the door, the choice would come down to two very different propositions: continuity in England with Arsenal, or a move to one of Europe's most recognised clubs in Barcelona.

It is worth noting the sourcing here. Caught Offside is not in the top tier of transfer reporting alongside the likes of David Ornstein or Fabrizio Romano, so the extent of Barcelona's concrete interest — as opposed to general monitoring — should be treated with appropriate caution at this stage.

What is clear is that Kroupi's stock has risen considerably on the back of one season, and that any club wanting him will need to prise him from a Bournemouth side under no pressure to sell.

For now, the immediate focus will be on the striker's recovery, and interested parties will be watching closely for his return to action before the picture becomes any clearer.
