In an exclusive interview, Rice emphasized Arsenal’s readiness to challenge perceptions and make a statement in the title race.

Reflecting on past criticisms, Rice acknowledged the labels attached to Arsenal when results didn’t meet expectations.

He pointed out instances like missing out on the top four and losing the league, highlighting a pivotal moment for the club’s transformation.

‘You know yourself what people say about Arsenal when they don’t win games or if they get close,’ he remarked.

‘When they missed out on the top four two years ago. When they lost the league last year. I think this is a new Arsenal now,’ he added.

Optimism from Strengthened Squad

Rice’s optimism stems from Arsenal’s strengthened squad, with notable signings like himself, David Raya, and Kai Havertz making significant impacts.

The midfielder credits a collective composure and a focused mindset for Arsenal’s resurgence this season, emphasizing the team’s determination to learn from past mistakes.

‘This is an Arsenal that has learned from last year,’ he said, ‘a group of players that are learning, getting older, and more experienced.’

‘The club bought some great players over the summer as well, who have all had a massive impact. We are ready to change the barrier about what people say about Arsenal.’

Arsenal’s recent form underscores Rice’s confidence, with the team winning eight consecutive league matches since their winter break.

Additionally, a hard-fought victory against Porto in the Champions League last 16 sets the stage for their upcoming challenge against Bayern Munich.

Embracing the Underdog Role

Despite facing a formidable City side and the unbeaten record of Rodri, Rice remains undeterred.

‘It’s how everyone is around the place in terms of being calm and taking one game at a time,’ he noted. ‘That’s a thing I’ve noticed.’

‘We’re never thinking: ‘Oh, we have City on Sunday, then Luton on Wednesday.’ It’s just focus on that one game and doing everything we can to win that one game,’ he added.

He embraces the underdog role, preferring to exceed expectations rather than succumb to pressure.

Rice’s admiration for Rodri’s abilities adds to the anticipation of a fierce midfield battle in the upcoming match.

‘He’s a monster,’ Rice said, referring to Rodri, who holds a Premier League-era record of not tasting defeat in 62 City games.

‘I’d rather go there as an underdog and prove to everyone that we can be the team we really want to be.’

Getting Stronger with Arteta

Manager Mikel Arteta’s impact on Arsenal’s revival is evident, with Rice praising his focus on immediate impact and tactical preparations.

As Arsenal gears up for the crucial clash against City, Rice’s words resonate with the newfound belief and resilience within the squad.
