Arsenal have opened talks over a striker on their shortlist, ahead of a huge summer transfer window.

The Gunners failed to lift silverware for the fifth successive season last campaign, and will now look ahead to what has been dubbed to be a ‘blockbuster’ summer.

Internally at the club, a deal for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is already viewed as completed, and heads have now turned to bolstering their attacking department.

Arsenal are keen to sign a left-winger, to compete with both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, and although Nico Williams is Mikel Arteta’s first choice, the club are also interested in AC Milan’s Rafael Leão, and Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

However, the Gunners’ main priority is signing a clear goalscorer, after not a single player in the squad was able to convert ten league goals last campaign, a club record dating back over a hundred years.

Currently, Arsenal are evaluating whether they should sign the young prospect of Benjamin Šeško, or the more established Sporting CP striker, Viktor Gyökeres.

While new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is a huge fan of the Swede, Mikel Arteta’s choice is the RB Leipzig goalscorer.

According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have opened initial concrete talks over a deal for Šeško, having always been high on the club’s list.

Arsenal were ‘left shocked’ after the 21 year-old signed an extension in Germany last summer, after their attempts to complete a deal were rejected in May 2024.

Since then, the club were keen to welcome the Slovenian to North London during their injury crisis in January, but after further attempts were also rejected, Šeško has decided he will now depart this summer.

The Slovenian’s release clause initially stood at £50million, but has now reportedly risen in excess of £75million, following performance-based conditions.

After sustaining a knee issue during a post-season tour of Brazil, Šeško was sidelined in Leipzig’s victory over Santos, with the Bundesliga club keen to keep one of their most prized assets injury-free.
