Edu, the man who built the squad that ended Arsenal's 22 year wait for a Premier League title, has taken on a new advisory role at League Two strugglers Northampton Town.

The former Brazil midfielder, who left his position as Nottingham Forest's global head of football in September, will act as a senior advisor to the Cobblers' new Brazilian ownership group, according to BBC Sport. He has also joined the board of directors at Bulgarian top flight club Levski Sofia.

Northampton, who sit 23rd in League Two, were taken over last month by a consortium featuring former AC Milan and Chelsea forward Alexandre Pato. Levski Sofia are owned by London based investment firm Gemcorp Capital, which is also an investor in Sports Alpha Capital, the group that has become Northampton's majority shareholder, linking Edu's two new roles.

Advisor, not multi-club project

Cobblers co-chairman Joao Xavier, speaking at an open forum event, explained how the relationship with Edu came about and what his role will actually involve.
