Arsenal took an early lead through Bukayo Saka, only for former Gunners winger Serge Gnabry to level the score for Bayern Munich.

Harry Kane, renowned for his goals against Arsenal during his time at Tottenham, added to Arsenal’s woes by converting a first-half penalty to put Bayern ahead.

Despite Saka’s strong performance and a late push by Arsenal, the match ended in a draw after Trossard’s late heroics.

Goals and Controversies

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta expressed mixed emotions after the match.

While acknowledging Arsenal’s strong start and moments of dominance, he lamented defensive lapses that allowed Bayern to capitalize on opportunities.

Arteta’s tactical substitutions, including bringing on Trossard and Gabriel Jesus, proved crucial in revitalizing Arsenal’s attack and salvaging a vital draw.

Although Saka was furious not to be given a penalty in the final seconds when Neuer appeared to trip him, Arteta would only say: “The decision was made. We cannot change it.

“We started really well, we were dominant, created some momentum and scored the first goal. Then at a critical moment we didn’t get the second.

“We have given them two goals today. That is the biggest lesson. When they have this space they can punish you.”

Bayern’s boss, Thomas Tuchel, believed his team should have had a penalty as well, expressing disappointment with the officiating.

“The referee would not give a penalty because he said it was a kid’s mistake by their defender when he handled.

“This is a horrible explanation. We feel angry. It is a huge decision against us.”

Implications for the Second Leg

The draw leaves the Champions League quarter-final tie delicately poised, with both teams heading into the second leg with everything to play for.

Arsenal, buoyed by Trossard’s late strike, will look to capitalize on their home advantage and secure a spot in the semi-finals.

However, Bayern Munich, despite their defensive vulnerabilities, remain a formidable opponent capable of turning the tide in their favor.

As the countdown begins for the return leg in Munich on April 17, football fans can anticipate another thrilling showdown between two European giants vying for a spot in the Champions League semi-finals.
