The family of Arsenal target, Viktor Gyökeres, have revealed their desire to stay at Sporting.

Following their third successive second-place finish in the Premier League, Arsenal are preparing for an exciting summer transfer window, in a bid to push their title charge next campaign.

The signing of Real Sociedad midfielder, Martín Zubimendi, is already seen as complete by those in the club, and heads will now turn to other targets.

The Gunners are keen to welcome attacking reinforcements this summer, after they finished the league campaign without a single player scoring ten or more goals, for the first time since 1923/24.

While Arsenal are targeting a left-winger to compete with Gabriel Martinelli, a striker is viewed as a top priority within the club.

The pair highest on the shortlist within the striker department are RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško and Sporting CP’s Gyökeres.

Mikel Arteta’s initial top target was Premier League star, Alexander Isak, but this move is no longer viable.

While the 21 year-old Slovenian is viewed as having an exciting potential, the Sporting star has scored an incredible 54 goals and 13 assists in just 52 games this season.

The Swede was awarded for his efforts by ranking only behind Kylian Mbappé for the European Golden Boot, an award calculated by weightings based on UEFA co-efficient rankings.

However, while transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, has reported that Gyökeres has played his final game for the Portuguese outfit, his family appear to have other ideas.

According to Portuguese outlet, A Bola, the striker’s girlfriend and famous actor, Ines Aguiar, told fans that she “promises” to persuade her boyfriend to remain in Lisbon, after being swarmed.

In addition, his uncle, Chris, revealed he “thinks” Gyökeres will stay with the Liga Portugal champions after a dinner, where they “decided that he has to stay”.

In response to these comments, the 26 year-old responded, saying that although they “really like” Portugal, the decision will also be based on football: “But it’s football and that’s another thing. We’ll see what happens. Yes [I would like to win a third title with Sporting], but we’ll see. I don’t know what will happen in the summer… let’s see what happens.”

With the Gunners failing to secure major silverware for five consecutive years, a big transfer window lies ahead, in pursuit of glory.
