Viktor Gyökeres speaks out on potential Arsenal transfer

Arsenal striker target, Viktor Gyökeres, has spoken on his future at Sporting CP, and interest from Arsenal, upon his Taça de Portugal victory yesterday.
After Arsenal finished as Premier League runners-up for the third consecutive season, the club have now turned their head to the transfer window in a bid to boost their title charge next campaign.
Having reportedly completed the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder, Martín Zubimendi, the Gunners are now keen to welcome a new striker to North London.

It is clear that Arsenal have lacked a clear goalscorer in the turn of the new year, as an already poor attacking force was hampered by injuries to Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.
However, injuries aren’t only to blame for the Gunners’ poor conversion in front of goal, as they finished the league campaign without a single player scoring ten or more goals, the first time it has happened at the club since 1923/24.
While Mikel Arteta’s heart was set on Alexander Isak, this move is no longer viable, and the Gunners are now currently deciding between Benjamin Šeško and Gyökeres.
Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is a big fan of the Sporting striker, dating back to his time at Atlético de Madrid.
Gyökeres boasts an incredible form in front of goal this campaign, scoring 53 and assisting 13 in just 51 appearances for the Liga Portugal champions.
Although questions remain over the translation to the Premier League, the 26 year-old came second in this year’s European Golden Boot, an award calculated using weightings based on UEFA co-efficients. Gyökeres was beaten to the award by Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, but placed above the likes of Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, and Robert Lewandowski.
On Sunday night, the striker won and scored an emphatic penalty to take the Taça de Portugal to extra-time, where his side then clinched a 3-1 victory.
After the game, Gyökeres was asked on his future beyond this season, and specifically about Arsenal’s reported interest.
On the pitch at full-time, Gyökeres revealed: “Let’s see. It’s hard for me to say, because it’s football, you never know what is going to happen in the summer.”
When he was asked a follow-up question specifically on the reported interest held by the North London club, he added: “I don’t know, I have tried to focus on these last games, because they’ve been so important, I don’t want to think about anything else. If anything is true, let’s see in the summer.”
Mikel Arteta hinted that the Gunners’ recruitment meeting with the likes of Josh Kroenke and Andrea Berta will be held today, meaning there should be movement in the coming weeks.
