Benjamin Sesko Reveals Why He Turned Down Arsenal This Summer

Benjamin Sesko has opted to stay with RB Leipzig despite strong interest from Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea this summer.
The 21-year-old striker, who impressed with 14 goals in 31 appearances for Leipzig last season, revealed that he turned down a move to the Premier League in favor of signing a new contract with the Bundesliga side.
Sesko, whose release clause was set at £56 million until the end of June, spoke to Nogomania about his decision, emphasizing his desire for further growth and experience.

‘I believe I made the right decision’
“I thought it through very well,” he said. “I believe I made the right decision. I wanted to gain more experience, learn more, and not rush things.
“Leipzig is an excellent club that can provide what I need for the next step. Their vision is clear; everything is geared towards growth, progress, and high goals. I felt it was right to decide this way.”
The Slovenian forward’s decision was met with understanding from former Manchester United captain Gary Neville, who praised Sesko’s choice during Euro 2024 coverage.
Neville highlighted the benefits of Sesko staying in Germany for another year to develop his game away from the intense scrutiny of the Premier League.
‘I think we are moving back to having a big physical striker up front the game seems to have flipped a little bit by having big defenders and big strikers,’ Neville told ITV Sport.
‘He is someone who has so much potential and you can see why Premier League clubs are interested. But I can also see why, what is being suggested, he is staying at Leipzig for another year.
‘It will give him the chance to grow without the spotlight you get on you in the Premier League and just develop his game a little bit more.’
Sesko’s new contract reportedly includes an agreement allowing him to potentially move away from Leipzig next year, indicating a mutual understanding between player and club regarding his future ambitions.
Arsenal, Other Clubs Interest in Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea were all keen on securing Sesko’s services this summer as they looked to bolster their attacking options.
However, Sesko’s commitment to Leipzig for another season means these clubs will have to explore alternative targets in their quest for striking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
Looking ahead, Sesko remains focused on his development at Leipzig, aiming to continue his impressive goal-scoring form and further enhance his skills under the guidance of the Bundesliga club.
