Burnley clash critical to Arsenal’s season

The pressure is on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to start winning games of football and that begins Sunday when the North London side welcome Burnley.

Mikel Arteta’s side is currently languishing down in 15th in the table and is on their worst start to a league campaign in 35 years, Sunday’s game against Burnley is a must-win.

Arsenal’s Premier League campaign has been nothing short of turbulent so far, struggling to score goals and conceding more, fans are already calling for Mikel Arteta to be relieved of his duties.

Sunday’s game is simply a must-win for Arsenal to ease some of the pressure that has been building up on Mikel Arteta after a string of poor performances.

The Europa League has provided a welcome distraction, however with no European football now until the new year, attention is now fully on the league campaign.

Arsenal’s run of fixtures leading into the new year is essentially an audition for Mikel Arteta to keep his job as Gunners boss. Arsenal’s next five matches include Burnley, Southampton, Everton, Manchester City in the EFL Cup, and finishing with Chelsea, so it is not the easiest run for the North London side.

Fans and journalists alike have agreed that Mikel Arteta is going to need to win three possibly four of these next five matches to save his job. The January window can not come soon enough as reinforcements are desperately needed for this Arsenal side.

With Dominik Szoboszlai reportedly joining German side RB Leipzig according to The Guardian, a January bid for Houssem Aouar is now highly likely as Arsenal look to add some creativity to their midfield which has severely lacked any intent all season.

The long road back starts on Sunday with the visit of Burnley. It will not be a walkover as Sean Dyche will have his side drilled to play a physical style of football and be tough to breakdown.

Arsenal is not at a crisis point yet, however, if Burnley were to escape the Emirates with three points, we can only imagine the sort of pressure that it will put on the Arsenal board regarding Mikel Arteta’s future.

Arsenal needs a win to breathe some life back into their league season, with the Europa League take care of, for now, all that matters for Mikel Arteta and his side is three important points come Sunday.

A critical clash awaits.
