Neto Joins Arsenal After Ramsdale’s Departure
Earlier today, Aaron Ramsdale completed his move to Southampton, leaving Arsenal in urgent need of a replacement goalkeeper.
The Gunners had initially set their sights on Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, but negotiations fell through when Espanyol refused to budge on their €20 million valuation.
With time running out, Arsenal turned their attention to Neto, Bournemouth’s second-choice goalkeeper, who has now agreed to join the club on a temporary basis.
Romano Confirms Norberto Neto Signing
Fabrizio Romano, a well-known football journalist, confirmed the signing on his X account, stating: “Neto to Arsenal, here we go! Deal completed for Brazilian goalkeeper. Espanyol have just confirmed to Arsenal that their final bid for Joan García (€20m fixed fee plus add-ons) can’t be accepted, clause or nothing. #AFC leave García race and sign Neto on loan deal.”
The loan deal for Neto does not include an option for Arsenal to purchase the player permanently, meaning the Brazilian will likely return to Bournemouth at the end of the season.
Despite this, his experience is expected to provide valuable cover and competition for David Raya, who remains Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper.
A Smart Move for Arsenal
With Ramsdale’s £25 million transfer to Southampton finalized, Arsenal needed to act quickly to find a suitable replacement.
Neto, who found himself as the backup at Bournemouth following the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga, presents a cost-effective solution for the Gunners.
The loan deal not only fills the immediate gap but also allows Arsenal to continue scouting for a long-term goalkeeping option for the future.
Neto’s arrival ensures that Arsenal remains competitive in all areas of the pitch as they push for success this season.
The experienced goalkeeper will likely serve as a backup to David Raya, ensuring the team has reliable options between the posts.
As the transfer window draws to a close, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will make any additional moves, including the rumored interest in Raheem Sterling.
For now, the club has successfully addressed one of its most pressing needs with the signing of Neto, who will soon join the squad and prepare for the challenges ahead.
