Arsenal Eyeing Joao Neves as Potential Midfield Addition

Arsenal are actively searching for a new midfielder this summer, with several names being linked to the club.

While Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi have been mentioned, Fabrizio Romano recently highlighted another target that Arsenal believes could be perfect for their squad: Joao Neves.

Arsenal Interested in Joao Neves

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The United Stand, shared that Arsenal views Neves as an exceptional talent fitting perfectly into their plans.

However, he also noted the challenges involved in signing the young midfielder. “I think it’s very difficult to sign Joao Neves at the moment.

PSG aren’t walking away, he’s considered their top target,” Romano explained.

Challenges in Securing Neves

Benfica’s stance on Neves adds complexity to the potential transfer.

The Portuguese club demands a hefty €120m release clause, aiming to retain Neves until at least the summer of 2025.

This high asking price makes the deal challenging for Arsenal, especially considering the player’s limited top-level experience.

Romano added, “They know that at the moment things can change in three or four weeks, so let’s keep the story open, but Benfica want €120m, the release clause. They don’t want to change the structure, they want to continue with Neves next season and maybe sell in the summer of 2025.”

Financial Hurdles

Arsenal, while having substantial financial resources, typically avoids splurging on unproven talents.

Spending £105m, which would match their club-record deal, on a teenager like Neves seems unlikely.

Despite Arsenal’s recognition of Neves as a promising talent, the financial demands make the transfer improbable.

“Unless Neves’ price drops significantly, it’s hard to envisage Neves joining Arsenal in this summer transfer window,” Romano concluded.

As Arsenal continues to look for midfield reinforcements, the club will need to navigate financial constraints and competitive interest from other clubs.

The pursuit of Joao Neves remains a possibility, but significant hurdles must be overcome for the deal to materialize.
