Arteta Praises Fan Support for Calafiori
After weeks of anticipation, Arsenal supporters were eager to see their new summer signing, Riccardo Calafiori, in action.
The 22-year-old was substituted in for Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back, and his debut was met with a wave of enthusiasm from the home crowd.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his satisfaction with the fan reaction following the match.
Arteta shared his thoughts on the atmosphere, saying, “I just love it. When the supporters react like that to one of our own, it’s great. The way you feel it straight away, it’s love, he’s respected, and they’re right behind you. That’s an unbelievable platform for many players to join our club.”
Calafiori and Saliba Reflect on Debut Experience
Calafiori himself was quick to acknowledge the support he received from the fans.
Speaking to Arsenal’s social media channels after the game, he expressed his gratitude: “Hi guys, thank you for the support today. Felt amazing making my debut today and can’t wait to see you next week.”
On Instagram, the defender further shared his appreciation, posting, “Thanks for the support and for the welcome, you made me feel at home, guys. First of many!”
William Saliba, another key figure in Arsenal’s defense, also commented on Calafiori’s debut.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Saliba voiced his excitement for his new teammate’s future with the Gunners.
“Yeah, I’m so happy for him,” Saliba said. “I think it’s only the beginning, he’s a really good player, young as well. We’re so happy to have him with us and I hope he’ll have a really good season with us.”
Looking Ahead: Calafiori’s Role in the Arsenal Squad
Despite playing less than 30 minutes in Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures, Calafiori has already made a positive impression.
However, it remains unlikely that he will start in the opening match of the competitive season against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to retain his place in the starting lineup for that game.
Nevertheless, with his debut now behind him, Calafiori is poised to become a regular contributor to Arsenal’s backline.
As the season progresses, fans can look forward to seeing more of the Italian international as he integrates further into the squad.
A full competitive debut may be just around the corner.
