Manager Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for additional signings following the acquisition of Riccardo Calafiori.

Viktor Gyokeres, 26, had attracted interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool due to his performance in 2023/24.

However, with an £86 million release clause, Arteta is reportedly focusing on a current Premier League player who better fits his tactical plans.

Viktor Gyokeres Not a Part of Arteta’s Plans

According to the Independent, Arteta’s preference is for a forward who can operate in a versatile role, similar to Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Jesus.

Gyokeres, known for his strength and ball-holding ability, does not align with this vision.

Consequently, Arsenal’s interest in Ivan Toney has also diminished for similar reasons.

Arteta’s philosophy emphasizes patience and precise player fit, as seen with his previous lengthy pursuit of Declan Rice, which concluded in a record £105 million transfer.

Despite scoring 91 goals in the league last season, second only to Manchester City, Arsenal still faces criticism for lacking a clinical finisher to secure the title.

Arteta is determined to address this by seeking a forward who can add a different dimension to the attack.

Recent Signings and Future Prospects

Arsenal has been active in the transfer market, converting David Raya’s loan into a permanent deal and bringing in Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

The Gunners are also linked with midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

Financially, the club has balanced its spending by selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham for an initial £27 million, potentially rising to £34 million.

After their pre-season tour in the US, which concluded with a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Arteta acknowledged the need for further squad enhancement.

“The team has to be constantly evolving and improving because the level is higher and higher,” he stated.

“That’s what we are trying to do. But I think we are in good condition.”
