Recent reports indicate that Arsenal has initiated contract negotiations with the Swedish forward and his agent.
A preliminary contract agreement is reportedly in place, contingent on finalizing terms with Gyokeres’ club.
Arsenal’s Summer Signings and Targets
Earlier this week, Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the summer by bringing in Italian star Riccardo Calafiori.
This follows the permanent acquisition of David Raya earlier in the season. Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is also expected to join the club soon.
Despite these additions, Arsenal has been without a dedicated striker for some time.
Manager Mikel Arteta had been monitoring several potential targets, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but no deals were finalized.
Arsenal Massive Transfer Boost for Gyokeres
A Spanish report suggests that Arteta has renewed his focus on Viktor Gyokeres as his primary striker target, with Arsenal reportedly beginning contract negotiations with both the Sporting Lisbon player and his agent.
Gyokeres has had an impressive season in Portugal, scoring 43 goals in 50 games since leaving Coventry City for the Primeira Liga.
The 26-year-old striker, linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, has had his release clause lowered.
Sporting Lisbon initially valued him at £86 million, a sum deemed too high for Arsenal.
However, the price has now dropped to £68 million, making it a more feasible option for the North London club.
Arsenal plans to finance the Gyokeres deal through the sales of Emile Smith-Rowe and Eddie Nketiah.
Smith-Rowe is set to sign with Fulham for an initial £27 million, with potential add-ons of £7 million.
Nketiah is likely to move to Ligue 1 side Marseille in a deal worth £25 million.
These transactions could provide the necessary funds to finalize Gyokeres’ transfer and potentially secure Merino as well.
