According to De Telegraaf, the Gunners have proposed a €400,000 deal, which includes additional bonuses, for the 18-year-old talent. Setford’s contract with Ajax is set to expire in 2025, and this bid comes as Arsenal aims to secure his services well before that.

Arsenal’s Tempting Offer for Tommy Setford

Setford had an impressive stint with Ajax’s U18 team last season, recording six clean sheets in 15 matches.

Despite his notable performances, he hasn’t yet played in the Eerste Divisie with Jong Ajax, which might influence his openness to a move.

Arsenal’s proposal is enticing for Setford, partly because he would reunite with his current goalkeeper coach from England’s youth setup.

A detailed long-term plan has been crafted for him at Arsenal, which adds to the appeal.

Ajax finds itself in a tough spot with this offer.

While they have proposed that Setford becomes the main goalkeeper for Jong Ajax and offered a development path within the club, Setford seems inclined towards a move to Arsenal.

Ajax could hold onto Setford until his contract runs out next year, receiving Arsenal’s offered amount as training compensation, but without any additional bonuses.

Selling him now, however, could bring in more funds and might be the more pragmatic choice.

Ongoing Negotiations and Future Steps

Both clubs are continuing discussions, with a higher fee likely being a point of contention.

Ajax will also make a final effort to persuade Setford to sign a new contract and remain with the Dutch club.

However, with Setford’s focus seemingly on a potential move to Arsenal, his current priorities might lean more towards joining the Premier League side.

The negotiations in the coming days will determine the young goalkeeper’s next steps and whether he will be donning the Arsenal jersey soon.
