Arsenal Linked with Move for England International Who Arteta Coached

Recent reports linking Arsenal with a potential move for England international Raheem Sterling have been put to rest, with sources confirming that the Gunners are not pursuing the Chelsea winger.

The 29-year-old winger has found himself out of favor under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, having been excluded from the matchday squad in both of Chelsea’s opening matches this season.
Alongside teammate Ben Chilwell, Sterling has been training away from the main group, with Maresca making it clear that their situation at the club is unlikely to change.
“In this moment, they are training apart,” Maresca stated. “The situation with them both is quite clear. If they are looking for minutes, then it is better if they leave.”
As a result, Sterling is actively seeking an exit from Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes.
Reports have suggested that he prefers to stay in London, leading to speculation that he could reunite with former coach Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, where they previously worked together at Manchester City.
Arteta Shuts Down Raheem Sterling Rumors
Despite the rumors, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has firmly dismissed the possibility of bringing Sterling to the Emirates.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League clash with Aston Villa, Arteta addressed the speculation and praised Sterling’s abilities but confirmed that no contact had been made.
“No,” Arteta responded when asked if he had considered signing Sterling.
“But I can talk about my time with Raheem. It was exceptional, we built a really strong relationship together. He was unbelievable at the time we were together and he taught me a lot as well. About individuals, how they play and how we give them support and help them. He’s someone I have a really strong feeling about.”
Instead of pursuing Sterling, Arsenal is close to finalizing a £28 million deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.
The Spanish international will be Arsenal’s third signing of the summer, following the permanent acquisition of David Raya from Brentford and the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
Arsenal Ready for Final Week Transfers
As the transfer window draws to a close, Arsenal is keeping all options open for potential last-minute deals.
While the club is set to secure Merino, they remain vigilant for any unexpected opportunities that may arise.
Arteta hinted that further signings could be made, particularly if Aaron Ramsdale departs, which would necessitate the addition of a backup goalkeeper.
“You have to be ready and especially in the last week,” Arteta said. “You have to be alert and prepared because a lot of surprises can come, for many different reasons and we are prepared.”
