Arteta’s Quiet Yet Strategic Transfer Window
Arsenal’s summer transfer activity has been relatively understated, with Mikel Arteta focusing on carefully selected signings.
The club has permanently secured goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford and brought in Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
Another significant move appears to be on the horizon, as Mikel Merino is expected to join the squad after reportedly completing a medical over the weekend.
Despite these additions, Arteta and the Arsenal management are still considering bringing in another forward before the window closes.
The club has been linked with several strikers throughout the summer, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.
However, one name that has frequently surfaced in connection with Arsenal is Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
Ivan Toney Goes to Saudi
According to reports, Ivan Toney is set to leave Brentford and join Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
The 28-year-old striker, who has been consistently linked with Arsenal during this transfer window, has reportedly agreed on personal terms with the Saudi club.
Saudi Pro League vice-chairman Saad Al-Lazeez and sporting director Michael Emenalo are said to be in London finalizing the deal.
Toney’s absence from Brentford’s recent Premier League match, a 2-0 loss to Liverpool, fueled speculation about his imminent departure.
With Toney seemingly out of the running, it appears that Arteta is satisfied with the forward options currently available at his disposal, despite Gabriel Jesus’ recent injury setback.
When questioned about potential transfers following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, Arteta stated, “We are really happy with the squad we have. It is true we have an injury with Gabriel Jesus as well, and we missed him. If we can do something, we will do it, but at the moment, we love the ones we have; they are really, really good.”
Arsenal’s Final Days in the Transfer Market
Despite Arteta’s public satisfaction with the current squad, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Arsenal may still be in the market for one more offensive player.
Speaking on his Playback channel, Romano suggested that the club’s “intention” is to add another forward before the window closes.
However, he tempered expectations, indicating that a player like Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao is unlikely to make the move to North London.
